Alex Geary

Alex Geary Alex Geary was born in New Plymouth. He studied the piano for seven years from the age of 8 and started the violin a year later, developing a keen interest in composition along the way.

Currently he is studying towards a Bachelor of Music majoring in Violin Performance at the University of Waikato Conservatorium of Music. Alex has also had the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the New Plymouth Orchestra, and was accepted into the NZSO National Youth Orchestra.

In 2011 Alex won the International Registered Music Teachers Taranaki Young Musician of the Year competition and gained an ATCL Recital diploma in violin.

Alex was awarded a Lilburn Trust Composition Award (merit) in 2012 from the University of Waikato for Self Restriction.
