Andrew Leathwick
Andrew Leathwick began piano lessons at the age of nine. In 2010, he began studying piano under Katherine Austin at the University of Waikato Conservatorium of Music, where he is currently in his Honours year.
While at the University of Waikato, Andrew won the University's annual concerto competition, and this year in March he won first prize, the audience choice award and junior jury prize at the 46th NZ National Concerto Competition. This year he was named the Waikato University 2013 Cultural and Arts person of the year. Andrew also has a passion for composing, which he is currently studying alongside piano. In his spare time, Andrew enjoys unicycling, astronomy and studying Mandarin Chinese.
Andrew has received a Lilburn Trust Composition Award (merit) for his piano quartet (2011), a Composition and Performance Award for States (2012, acoustic section) and a Composition Award for The Pallid Wreath (2013) for soprano and piano.
