Janneke de Jong
Janneke was originally born in the Netherlands and began musical education at college when she immigrated to New Zealand at the age of thirteen. While studying at Otumoetai College she was actively involved with numerous musical ensembles, including chamber groups, choirs, barbershop choirs, jazz and symphonic bands with whom she travelled nationally and internationally for various musical competitions and festivals.
Janneke has played the flute for eight years and is teaching herself guitar and piano. It was her time at college that allowed her passion for music to grow and helped her pursue a Bachelor of Music at the University of Waikato, which she completed in October 2011. Janneke has composed music for string quartet, piano, prepared piano, choir, orchestra and other genres but is particularly passionate about film music. She is looking to further this interest for future composition.
Janneke was awarded a Lilburn Trust Composition Award (merit) in 2011 for A Conversation from the University of Waikato.
