Johannes Contag
Johannes Contag (b. 1972 in Freiburg/Germany) has been an active composer, performer and music producer since the early 1990s. Much of his creative output has been in the field of experimental pop music, including collaborations with groups such as Cloudboy (producing several albums as well as live film soundtracks) and songwriters such as Jay Clarkson, Bill Direen and David Kilgour.
Contag undertook postgraduate at the New Zealand School of Music in 2009 and 2010 (having previously completed a BMus at the University of Otago in 1994), with a renewed focus on instrumental composition for large ensembles.
Johannes was awarded a Lilburn Trust Composition Award in 2009 and 2010 from the New Zealand School of Music. He was also awarded the Wellington City Council Music Prize 2009, and received the 2010 David Farquhar Award to write a piece for the NZSM orchestra.
