Karlo Margetic

Karlo Margetic Karlo Margetic was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and has lived in New Zealand since age 7. He has recently completed a BMus in composition and clarinet at the New Zealand School of music and is currently pursuing postgraduate studies there.

Margetic has been the recipient of many prizes in composition including the NZSO/Todd Young Composer Award and the Trusts Young Composer Competition (Auckland Philharmonia). He was Composer in Residence with the NZSO National Youth Orchestra in 2007 and also Young Composer in Residence with the Auckland Philharmonia in 2007-8. His works have been performed at ClarinetFest in Atlanta and at the Adam Chamber Music Festival in Nelson.

A recent highlight was the premiere of the Xylophone Concerto, written for percussionist Brent Stewart, with the Wellington Youth Orchestra. It was subsequently workshopped by the NZSO in the 2009 SOUNZ Readings. Margetic is an active performer and is a committee member of the SMP Ensemble with whom he has appeared as clarinetist, conductor and narrator.

Karlo was awarded a Lilburn Trust Composition Award (first place) in 2009 from the New Zealand School of Music.
