Rosa Elliott
Rosa Elliott is a 20-year-old composer from Christchurch in her fourth year at the University of Canterbury where she is studying a Bachelor of Music in Composition and English and French under a Bachelor of Arts. Rosa's love for composition began throughout her time at Burnside High School, during which she was the winner of the SOUNZ Big Sing Composition Competition in 2015 for her choral work, Requiem.
Since then, Rosa's music has been commissioned by various choirs around the country, and has had performances by multiple ensembles in Christchurch. Rosa has been a recipient of the Leigh and Judith Pownall Prize for Music and the second and first prizes for the Douglas Lilburn Composition Prize from the University of Canterbury in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
In 2017 Rosa attended Choral Connect, of which she was a winner of the composition competition, hearing her work Those Others sung by the NZ Youth Choir. She was also a winner of the NZTrio Composing Competition for her work Voices of the Air, played in Wellington and Auckland. Most recently, Rosa was a composer and performer in Free Radicals as part of the Word Festival.
