Sarah Ballard
Sarah is currently completing her Masters in music composition under the tutelage of John Elmsly at the University of Auckland.
Throughout her studies, Sarah has been a finalist in the NZSO Todd Corporation Young Composers programme in 2011 and 2012. She has also had a piece performed by the SMP ensemble in Wellington. In 2012 Sarah was the recipient of a University of Auckland Blues Award.
Her main project for 2012 was a piece for the Estrella piano quartet (2 pianos, 8 hands). The project comprised five short pieces for the ensemble. Each piece encapsulated various areas on earth that humans have left untouched or undiscovered until very recently.
Sarah is also an enthusiastic member of the Auckland Youth Choir, who perform several themed concerts per year and sing at various events in Auckland. On the completion of her Masters, she plans to continue composing through opportunities that arise.
Sarah was awarded a Lilburn Trust Composition Award (first place) in 2012 from the University of Auckland for felsic mafic.
