Tianyi Lu
Tianyi Lu is currently completing her Bachelor of Music at the University of Auckland studying flute and conducting with Uwe Grodd and Karen Grylls. She won first prize in the tertiary class of the 2009 New Zealand Woodwind Competition and was a finalist in the 2010 UoA Graduation Gala Concerto Competition. As a composer, she has won major prizes in the Douglas Lilburn, Llewellyn Jones and Douglas Mews competitions at the University of Auckland.
Tianyi conducts the Epsom Chamber Orchestra and is currently a Peter Gibbons Conducting Intern with Auckland Choral. In 2011 she will be working with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra as part of the Symphony Services International Conductor Development program. She sings in the University of Auckland Chamber Choir and has played principal flute in the Auckland Youth Orchestra. After completing her honours degree, she plans to further conducting studies overseas.
Tianyi was awarded a Lilburn Trust Performance Award in 2010 from the University of Auckland.
