Tony Lin

Tony Lin Tony Lin was born in China in 1988 and immigrated to New Zealand at the age of 6. He began learning music with keyboard lessons at the age of 12.

Tony completed a Bachelor of Music (Hons) at the University of Canterbury, with a double major in piano performance and composition.

Tony was the winner of the 40th New Zealand National Concerto Competition in 2007, and 2nd place at the 2008 Kerikeri National Piano Competition. He is a recipient of the Dame Malvina Major Foundation Arts Excellence Award, IRMT “Young Musician of the Year”, and the Anne Reid Memorial Scholarship.

His compositions have been performed and recorded by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and the Christchurch Youth Orchestra and have been broadcast on national radio. Tony is currently undertaking post-graduate studies at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore.

Tony was awarded a Lilburn Trust Composition Award in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 from Canterbury University.
