Tristan Carter

Tristan Carter Tristan Carter is a composer and violinist, who has been completing a Master of Musical Arts degree in Composition this year, under the supervision of Michael Norris and John Psathas. He has worked with and written for a range of musicians including members of the Atlas Ensemble in the Netherlands, the Tasman String Quartet, Dutch percussionist Arnold Marinissen, the NZSM Viola Ensemble, the SMP Ensemble, and a variety of Taonga Pūoro players throughout New Zealand.

Tristan plays and records with various bands and ensembles in the Wellington region, including the Javanese percussion ensemble Gamelan Padang Moncar, and has also written music for theatre productions such as Twelfth Night at Toi Whakaari, and Charm is Not Enough by the BabyShads.

In November 2011 he will represent New Zealand at the Asian Composers League Young Composers Competition in Taipei.

Tristan won the Lilburn Trust Composition Award from the New Zealand School of Music in 2007 with Murmur for the Tasman String Quartet, and in 2011 with Attacus atlas for amplified cello and violin, played by Charlie Davenport and himself.
